Learn More:

Tamarack-Larix laricina is also commonly called Eastern Larch, Black Larch or American Larch, is a species of Larch native to Canada and to the western mountainous part of the state of Maryland. It tolerates extremely varied climatic conditions from -30 degrees to 110 degrees fahrenheit. The tree grows best in wet or at least moist soil with a high organic content. Tamaracks are attractive trees with needles that turn brilliant yellow in autumn. They could be used as ornamentals far more than they are currently. It was a prized tree for its durability and resistance to decay and for shipbuilding, described as the best wood for knees and trunnels. Tamarack is the heaviest and strongest of softwoods and its resistance to decay makes it very suitable for fence posts, railway ties and telephone poles.
