Apple-Malus 'NorthPole'

Something to Ponder:

Few trees get more press than the apple tree. And it should. There are few things this tree doesn’t provide – shade, food, wood, fragrance, blossoms. But the Bible uses the term in a different way. The “apple of thine eye” is mentioned several times in the Old Testament and refers to the center of the eye – the pupil. It likely was the only spherical object known at the time and therefore was used as a descriptor.

The writers were stressing the importance of maintaining a singular focus on the law just as God maintained his focus on the nation of Israel. We use the term a bit differently – usually directed at a favored child or a particular loved one – but not all that differently because that is the way our Father in heaven looked at the Israelites and now how he looks at us as His children. He truly focuses on us, watching expectantly, delighted when we return His gaze.

Just as the tree is blessed with so many uses and beauty. As children of God, we too are given a beauty all our own. We can confidently go through life knowing that despite life’s heartache we are God’s beloved, the apple of His eye.
