American Beech-Fagus grandiflora

Learn More:

American Beech-Fagus grandifolia is a species of the Beech tree native to the eastern United States and extreme southeastern Canada. Large and graceful, the native American Beech adorns its low growing and wide branches across large park-like landscapes. The massive trunk has beautiful silver gray bark while the dark green summer foliage turns a golden bronze in the fall. Pioneers used the wood as a source of fuel for their large open fireplaces. They also used the leaves to stuff mattresses and Beech ashes were used to make soap. The wood is now used to make household items such as wooden utensils and clothespins.
