This Red Maple is a medium to fast growing vibrantly colored tree with a round or oval crown of dense glossy foliage. The most commonly planted Red Maple cultivar in the 1970s and ‘80’s. The name was inspired by the song “Red Sails in the Sunset”. Its fall color, at least in the north, is long lasting and a superb red-orange. Acorns are useful food for small mammals and the timber is used in making cabinetry, furniture and sporting goods.
