Learn More:
The American Sweetgum-Liquidambar styraciflua, is native to the eastern U.S but grows well throughout the U.S. They get their name from the yellow-green spherical flower clusters that form over the summer that over time turn into bristly "gum-balls." They can grow to heights of 100 feet. The timber is commonly used for commercial hardwoods, and Native Americans would use sap to make teas, treat dysentery and other illnesses.
